Melbourne Quarter Project

Right across from Southern Cross Station, Melbourne Quarter is one of the city’s biggest urban renewal projects. The precinct combines three premium commercial towers, residential apartments, a build-to-rent development, retail and green public space – a benchmark for inner-city living.
On a build of this scale, flooring success starts with the substrate. Surfaces must be primed, levelled and ready for whatever finish is specified.
At Melbourne Quarter, Roberts Universal Primer and Roberts Generale Leveller have been central to that process.

Universal Primer is a rapid-drying, low VOC acrylic primer that works across both porous and non-porous substrates, reducing the need for multiple products. On porous slabs it can be diluted and rolled on; on non-porous it’s applied as is. Either way it cures quickly (30–60 minutes) and leaves a tack-free surface ready for the next stage. Being solvent-free and low odour also makes it ideal for enclosed CBD spaces.
Once primed, Roberts Generale Leveller provides a high-performance self-smoothing underlayment. Its excellent flow allows quick, flat surfaces with minimal effort. Floors take light foot traffic in three to four hours and most coverings after 24 hours. With compressive strength suited to high-traffic areas and thickness from feather edge to 50 mm in a single pour, it’s as effective for small touch-ups as for large-scale levelling.

Melbourne Quarter’s mix of fresh concrete, painted surfaces and both porous and non-porous substrates called for versatile, trade-ready products. Using Universal Primer and Generale Leveller ensured strong adhesion, smooth bases and healthy indoor conditions thanks to their low VOC content.

This landmark precinct is built on more than design – it’s built on proven products that deliver speed, consistency and long-term performance. With Roberts Universal Primer and Roberts Generale Leveller underfoot, the floors at Melbourne Quarter are set up for lasting success.
