Hello and welcome to another episode of Prep Set Go! In this week's episode we'll be introducing
 0:09
RLA's Fire Pro, so let's jump straight in. Fire Pro is a water-based fire rated intumescent
 0:16
sealant designed for application to internal and external joints, junctions and penetrations
 0:21
requiring fire resistant sealing. When exposed to fire the Fire Pro sealant expands to form
 0:28
an inorganic plug, effectively preventing fire transmission across partitions and buildings. As
 0:33
it prevents fire heat and smoke from passing through joints it slows fire spread to allow
 0:38
sufficient time for people to exit the building. Fire Pro meets the AS1530.4-1999 standard
 0:46
providing fire ratings up to 4 hours. Common areas for use of fire Pro include joints between
 0:53
concrete, plaster board, block work or fibre cement, Hebel block, speed panel and brick walls
 1:00
as well as sealing building surface penetrations such as pipes, cable trays conduits and ducts.
 1:07
Easily applied it adheres firmly to a wide range of common construction materials,
 1:12
and with excellent flexible properties, water and UV resistance Fire Pro is suitable for both
 1:17
internal and external applications. Health-wise it's nonhazardous, water-based, non-flammable and
 1:24
non-toxic. It also has low voc rating and is green star project compliant. Now let's move on to the
 1:30
application. First of all as always is the surface prep. The substrate should be clean and free from
 1:37
any standing water, oil, grease, concrete spatter, dirt, dust and any other chemicals and general
 1:43
contaminants that can prevent proper adhesion. Remove any contaminants by mechanical means to
 1:48
avoid risk of delamination and adhesion failure, as this will undermine the fire resistant nature
 1:53
of the product. Next step is priming. Now over most building surfaces, priming is not typically
 1:58
required due to its excellent adhesion properties but for highly porous substrates including
 2:03
blockwood and concrete, surfaces should be primed before application to avoid excess of moisture
 2:08
loss and subsequent weakness in the sealant. You can contact our customer service team who
 2:13
can advise you on the suitable acrylic sealer to apply to high porosity substrates. And now
 2:19
on to the application. The sealant is available in 600ml sausages and dispensed using a barrel
 2:24
gun. Simply cut one end, slide into the gun, place the nozzle over the cut end, and screw
 2:37
on the cap. Install a suitably sized backing rod to fit the joint width to be sealed, and gun the
 2:49
FirePro FR into the joint space until the joint is completely filled. Ensure there are no voids
 2:58
present in the seal as this will weaken the joint and again undermine the sealant's fire resistant
 3:03
properties. Finish tooling the joint within 15 minutes, and immediately wipe up the excess
 3:13
material with a damp cloth. Protect from water until suitably cured for a minimum of 24 hours
 3:18
to avoid wash out and running the sealant. Cure times can vary substantially and depend on weather
 3:24
conditions such as temperature and humidity, the porosity of the substrate, and the joint
 3:28
dimensions. Typically a joint will skin in 2 to 3 hours and take up to seven days to fully cure.
 3:35
Joints exceeding 10-15mm in thickness may take more than 7 days to cure - that can be extended
 3:41
very cold or humid climates - so keep this in mind when planning your application. Thank you
 3:46
for joining us for another episode of Prep, Set, Go. If you have any questions on the FirePro FR
 3:51
and its applications, please feel free to give our friendly customer services team a call. Make sure
 3:56
to follow us so you don't miss out on our new episodes, and until next time, goodbye for now.
