WHAT'S NEW
POLYMER
ENGINEERING 7000 PRIME N TACK
Primer & Pressure Sensitive Adhesive
This Information Bulletin has been prepared by staff at Polymer
Engineering to help improve product awareness.
New Improved Product Performance
The technical department at Polymer has improved the product performance
which will now allow it to be used to install carpet tiles and modular
flooring using 7000 Prime N Tack in the direct stick application mode.
Where to use Prime N Tack
Polymer 7000 Prime N Tack is normally a one application primer/pressure
sensitive adhesive for securing Double Bond Carpet Underlays and Carpet
Tiles when laid in a direct stick application. This method of instillation
will reduce labor, primer and adhesive costs for the contractor and
installer.
How to Use Prime N Tack?
The sub floor should be vacuumed to remove any dust and comply with
the relevant Australian Standards in particular relating to retained
moisture levels if applied to a concrete slab. If the sub floor has
laitance, that is a loose dusty surface or is more porous than might
be expected, a second application of Prime N Tack may need to be applied.
Prime N Tack is white and milky in appearance and should be applied
to the subfloor using a 12mm long nap roller giving a spread rate of
up to 7 square meters/ litre. In one application, the sub floor will
be primed and adhesive applied. The adhesive will clear after approximately
20 minutes to a mildly tacky film and the Double Bond Carpet Underlay
or Carpet Tiles may then be laid in to the dry adhesive film.
The Advantages of Prime N Tack
This method of primer and pressure sensitive adhesive application
will reduce the time taken to prepare the sub floor there by reducing
the overall installation time, material and labor costs. In addition,
because the dry pressure sensitive adhesive film of Prime N Tack is
not as aggressive as that provided by Polymer 999 Pressure Sensitive
Adhesive, it is less expensive for the contractor or installer to purchase.
When to Not Use Prime N Tack
Polymer Engineering does not recommend the use of pressure sensitive
adhesive to install "hot press" vinyl tile and plank flooring. This
type of adhesive does not have the shear strength to stop the flooring,
which generally is not dimensionally stable, from changing its size. This
is particularly the case with Polymer 7000 Prime N Tack which has only
a mildly aggressive film and low shear strength when cured.
Increasing Customer Satisfaction
When it becomes necessary to refurbish the floorcoverings and commence
removing the carpet and double bond underlay, they will be more easily
removed leaving little or no underlay on the sub floor. The cost of floor
preparation for the new installation will be greatly reduced and may
even allow the new carpet underlay to be secured with only one coat
of new pressure sensitive adhesive.

New
15 litre pails will
make access to installations easier and safer with pack sizes smaller
and lighter than the traditional Australian Standard. These new sizes
comply with Occupational Health and Safety expectations and some pail
lids now include pull up pouring spouts with a screw top cap for easier
product access and resealing.
Polymer
903 Vinyl skirting Adhesive (Flammable) is
still packed in "open top" metal cans but the lids now include
pull up pouring spouts with a screw top cap for easier product access
and resealing. In the pursuit of improved work place safety, we recommend
that only small quantities of solvent based adhesive (Flammable) be
taken to an installation and that the containers be sealed when not
being used. Keep
