APPLICATION OF DOUBLE BOND CARPET SEAMING
TAPE
Double
Bond Carpet Seaming Tapes.
- Lay out and secure the double bond
carpet underlay in the normal manner. The carpet is then laid out
roughly into position with the seams trimmed in preparation for
the spreading of the adhesive.
- With the carpet in
position, one piece is normally "tubed", now draw a pencil
line on the top of the double bond underlay using the carpet seam
edge as the guide.
- Now "tube"
the second piece of carpet. You have on the double bond underlay
a pencil line, which indicates the centerline of the carpet seam.
- Trowel the carpet
adhesive up to the pencil line in the area where the first piece
of carpet is to be laid.
- Unroll the length
of double bond tape required for the carpet seam. Peel off the kraft
paper backing and dispose of it. The kraft paper is no longer required.
You now have a scrim and hot melt tape the center of which should
be placed onto of the underlay and on the pencil line previously
drawn. Half the width of the tape will now be in wet adhesive.
- Lay the first piece
of carpet over into the wet adhesive as per normal. The carpet seam
will now be half way over the width of the double bond seaming tape.
- Spread carpet adhesive
up to the double bond seaming tape ready for the second piece of
carpet. Now lay the carpet into the wet adhesive in the normal manner.
You now have a normal carpet seam with heat bond tape under the
carpet but on top of the double bond underlay.
- Position the carpet
seam and seam up in the normal manner. Yes the tape was laid into
wet adhesive but the iron will dry the adhesive and the tape will
adhere to the double bond underlay and to the underside of the carpet
so there will be no movement on the seam.
If the carpet
wants to relax and the seam open up, the double bond tape reduces the
possibility of
this happening. We believe double bond carpet seaming tape makes a stronger
seam over a longer period of time with carpets installed in adverse
environments where there is heavy traffic or regular aggressive cleaning.
