Architects Specification

Direct Stick Carpet Installation Using Polymer Flooring Adhesives

ADHESIVES, EQUIPMENT
For installing Jute backed, Polypropylene "Action Bac" type and Latex backed woven and tufted carpets.

WARRANTY
Provide normal manufacturers warranty, extendable for a period of 5 years, covering replacement of adhesive materials together with reimbursement of reasonable reinstallation charges to the installing contractor, if adhesive bond failure is determined within the warranted period, providing Polymer Engineering’s conditions are met regarding recommended equipment, materials and techniques.

SURFACE PREPARATION
All subfloor surfaces shall be prepared in accordance with Australian Standard AS/NZS 2455.1.1995 -"Textile Floor Coverings Laying Practice".

Adhesive shall be Polymer 227 Direct Stick Carpet Adhesive or Polymer 228 Health Range Solvent Free Carpet Adhesive or Polymer 300 Contract Carpet Adhesive for bonding carpet direct to the sub floor.

Carpet Seams
Polymer Engineering 60% Latex for sealing raw carpet edges and Polymer 500 solvent based Carpet Seam Adhesive for carpet seam sealing.

Adhesive Trowel
Trowel shall be 2.4 mm x 2.4 mm x 2.4mm "V" notched for Polymer 227, Polymer 228 or Polymer 300, coverage up to 3 sq metres per litre, for smooth backed carpets and 3.2mm x 1.6mm x 3.2mm "V" notches for woven and "Action Bac" type carpets, coverage up to 2 sq metres per litre.

APPLICATION OF PRIMERS, ADHESIVES AND INSTALLATION OF CARPET
For high porous subfloors, or floors where a floor leveling compound has been used, the use of Polymer 6000 Floor & Wall Primer is recommended. Polymer 6000 Floor & Wall Primer shall be applied evenly over the entire subfloor surface by either spray gun or roller in accordance with the appropriate Polymer Technical Data Sheet. In some circumstances, depending on the rate of absorbency of the subfloor, a second application of primer may be necessary. Drying time shall be approx. 10 to 20 minutes depending on substrate and climate conditions.

Spread Polymer 227, Polymer 238 or Polymer 300 with a "V" notched trowel to 100% of the surface of the subfloor. For hard to hold carpet, it may be necessary to allow a short tack up time. Coverage of Polymer 227, Polymer 238 or Polymer 300 Carpet Adhesives shall be up to 3.0 m_ per litre for secondary backed carpets and 2.5 m_ for "Action Bac", Woven and primary backed carpets.

Seal all raw carpet edges with Polymer 60% Latex and seal all carpet seams with Polymer 500 solvent based Carpet Seam Adhesive. Starting at one end of the seam, insert the applicator tip into the seam and apply a continuos bead of adhesive along the entire length as per Polymer Engineering’s published instructions.

Or
After bonding the carpet to the floor, open the seams and insert the Polymer Engineering Dual Bond/Direct Stick Carpet Tape for tufted and woven carpets, the full length of each seam and join the carpet using a carpet seaming iron as per the Polymer Engineering published instructions.

Roll the carpet within one hour of installation.
